Common Hermes Agent issues and how to fix them

The commands in this guide run on your VPS over SSH as root (how to access it). The ones you will use most:

hermes-admin gateway status
hermes-admin doctor
journalctl _UID=$(id -u hermes) -n 80

The panel does not load

If you have just ordered it, Hermes is the longest installation: it builds its panel and downloads what it needs. Wait for the "Your Hermes Agent is ready" email or for the "Your application" section in your panel to show the details. If nothing has changed after an hour, open a ticket.
If it used to work, check the proxy and the panel, and restart it if it is stopped:

Also check with ufw status that ports 80 and 443 are still open.

It does not accept the password

The username is admin and the initial password is in the "Your Hermes Agent is ready" email and in your client panel.
If you changed it, the current one is on the HERMES_DASHBOARD_BASIC_AUTH_PASSWORD= line of /home/hermes/.hermes/.env. You can set a different one there and restart the panel (how).

The agent does not reply anywhere

If it does not reply from the panel either, it is almost always the AI provider: a mistyped key, no credit or a model that no longer exists. hermes-admin doctor points it out. Check the key and credit with your provider and pick the model again (how).

It replies in the panel but not on Telegram

Check with hermes-admin gateway status that the messaging service is running.
The first time you message the bot it returns a pairing code: approve it with hermes pairing approve telegram CODE (as the hermes user).
The bot token may be mistyped or revoked in @BotFather, or in use somewhere else at the same time.

It runs out of memory or is slow

The model runs at your provider, not on the VPS. What uses memory here is the agent's tools, such as the automated browser. On the 2 GB plan the system leans on swap; if it falls short with your normal use (free -h), upgrade your plan without losing anything.

I want it to run commands without asking

It is possible (the so-called YOLO mode), but we do not recommend it: the agent could run instructions that reach it through a channel. If you turn it on, do it knowing the risk.
