Connect Hermes Agent to your AI and to Telegram, Discord or WhatsApp

Add your AI provider key, pick the model and link Hermes Agent to Telegram, Discord, Slack or WhatsApp from the panel or the terminal.

Hermes needs an AI provider that supplies the model and, if you want to talk to it outside the panel, one or more channels. Everything can be done from the panel; if you prefer the terminal, commands run as the hermes user: log in over SSH as root and run su - hermes first.

1. Connect your AI provider

You need an account with your provider: Nous Portal, OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic or a compatible endpoint. Model usage is billed by that provider, not by Astrol Nodes.

  • From the panel: add your key under Keys, then pick the model under Models → Change.
  • From the terminal:
su - hermes
hermes model

If you prefer the full wizard (model, tools and channels in one go), use hermes setup.

2. Talk to it

From the Chat tab in the panel, or by typing hermes in the terminal as the hermes user. /new starts a new conversation and /model switches models.

3. Telegram, Discord, Slack and other channels

Get the channel credentials ready first:

  • Telegram: create a bot with @BotFather (/newbot) and copy its token.
  • Discord: in the Discord developer portal, create an application with a bot and copy its token.

Then set it up from the panel, under Channels, or from the terminal:

su - hermes
hermes gateway setup
hermes gateway restart

Message your bot. The first time it will reply with a pairing code; approve it with the matching platform:

4. WhatsApp

A QR code appears: scan it from WhatsApp under Linked devices.

Check that it is running

As root, hermes-admin gateway status tells you whether the messaging service is running.

Important: the same bot token cannot work in two places at once; the channel will only deliver messages to one of them. And keep code pairing enabled: anyone can message your bot.
