We keep two servers open, one in Germany and one in Miami. Join from Java or Bedrock, on whatever version you run, and see how they perform before paying for anything.

If after the trial you decide it's not for you, you pay nothing. If you keep it, billing starts the next day at the regular price.

Getting started with your OpenClaw VPS

What you receive when you order OpenClaw, how to open the panel with your token, approve your browser and get the agent ready for your AI.

50 views Updated 17 Oct 2026

Your OpenClaw VPS is delivered with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and OpenClaw already installed and served over HTTPS. OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent that runs on your own server and talks to you from a web panel and over Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord and other channels.

What you receive

  1. The email with your VPS access details: the IP and the root password, to log in over SSH.
  2. The "Your OpenClaw is ready" email, a few minutes later: the panel address, the access token and how to approve your browser.

The same details are in your client area, in your server's "Your application" section. More detail in Where to find your application login details.

Important: OpenClaw does not use a username and password but a token that grants full access to your agent. Keep it in a password manager and do not share it. If you think someone has seen it, open a ticket and we will tell you how to change it.

First access to the panel

  1. Open the address, which looks like https://37-114-51-188.astrolnodes.app (what this address is).
  2. Paste the token into the Gateway secret field and connect.
  3. The first time, the panel stays pending approval (pairing required): for security, each new browser is approved from the server. Log in over SSH as root (how to access your VPS) and run:
openclaw-admin devices list
openclaw-admin devices approve REQUEST_ID

The page connects on its own once you approve it. Use a normal browser profile, not a private window, so it is remembered.

How to run OpenClaw commands

OpenClaw runs under its own system user, openclaw, without administrator rights. Its configuration belongs to that user, so there are two ways to use the openclaw tool:

  • As root, with openclaw-admin in front: openclaw-admin gateway status.
  • Switching to the user: su - openclaw and then openclaw gateway status.

If you run openclaw directly as root you will not see your configuration.

Next step: connect your AI and your channels

The server does not include any AI key: the agent runs on the account you have with your provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, OpenRouter…), and that provider bills you for model usage. Follow Connect OpenClaw to your AI provider and to Telegram, Discord or WhatsApp.

Security

The agent runs commands and reads or writes files as the openclaw user, without sudo. We recommend keeping it that way and treating anything that arrives through the channels as untrusted. To review the configuration: openclaw-admin security audit. More advice in Basic security for your VPS with an application.

More OpenClaw guides

OpenClaw is distributed under the MIT license. For choosing the model, prompts and tools you have the official OpenClaw documentation.
