The commands in this guide run on your VPS over SSH as root (how to access it). The ones that start with docker compose are run inside the /opt/n8n folder.
The address does not load
- If you have just ordered it, n8n finishes installing a few minutes after the first email. Wait for the "Your n8n is ready" email or for the "Your application" section in your panel to show the details. If it is still not ready after an hour, open a ticket.
- If it used to work and stopped loading, check that the services are running:
cd /opt/n8n && docker compose ps
You should see n8n, postgres, runners and caddy. If one is missing, restart them with docker compose restart and look for the reason in docker compose logs --tail 80 n8n.
- Check that you have not closed ports 80 and 443 in the firewall with
ufw status.
The browser says the certificate is not valid
- Always use the address (
https://37-114-51-188.astrolnodes.appor your domain), not the IP: the certificate is for the name. - Right after delivery, the certificate may take a few more minutes. It retries on its own.
- If you have just set your domain, see Use your own domain with n8n.
I forgot the password
If you have not changed it, it is in the "Your n8n is ready" email and in your panel. If you changed it and do not remember it:
astrol-n8n-reset-owner
The command cuts public access while it works, backs up the database, creates a new password, shows it to you and saves it in /root/astrol-app.txt. Then press "Read the details again" in the "Your application" section of your panel to see it there.
Important: this command removes the other users in n8n; their workflows and credentials move to your account. To also set your email as the username, add it: astrol-n8n-reset-owner [email protected].
I lost two-factor authentication
If you remember the password, turn it off for your user only:
cd /opt/n8n && docker compose exec n8n n8n mfa:disable [email protected]
If you do not remember the password either, astrol-n8n-reset-owner --disable-mfa does both.
It runs out of memory or is slow
Check the memory and whether the system had to kill processes:
free -h
dmesg -T | grep -i 'out of memory' | tail -n 5
What uses most memory in n8n is workflows that process large files or many items at once, and the execution history. To lighten it:
- In each workflow's settings, do not save successful executions if you do not need them.
- Process data in batches instead of loading everything in one step.
- If the usage comes from your normal load, upgrade your plan: you keep everything.
The disk fills up
Check how much is left with df -h /. The usual causes are the execution history, old backups in /opt/n8n/backups/ and old n8n versions after several updates (docker image prune -a removes them without touching the ones in use).
Webhooks receive nothing
- An active workflow uses the Webhook node's production URL; the test URL only works while the editor is listening.
- If you moved to your domain, the URL has changed: update it in the service that calls it.
What support covers
We help you with the VPS and the n8n installation: keeping the server running, the initial access, the certificate and the steps in these guides. Designing and debugging your workflows is outside our scope; for that you have the official n8n documentation and its forum. If something on the server is not working, open a ticket and, for security, do not paste passwords or the contents of /root/astrol-app.txt.
