The txAdmin "token" most server owners look for is the 4-digit PIN that txAdmin prints in the server console the first time it starts. You only need it once, to create the master account. If you lose access later, you do not need that PIN back: stop the server, rename admins.json inside the txData folder and start it again. txAdmin then generates a new PIN so you can create a new master account. This guide also covers the in-game error Unauthorized: token value.
What is the txAdmin PIN and where does it appear?
txAdmin is included in FXServer, the FiveM server software. When FXServer starts without a +exec server.cfg argument, it launches txAdmin. If no admin account exists yet, the console shows a box similar to this one (the PIN below is only an example):
All ready! Please access:
http://your-public-ip:40120/
Use the PIN below to register:
4821
- The PIN is a random 4-digit code and only exists while txAdmin has no admin accounts.
- Every restart generates a new PIN until the master account is created, so always use the most recent one shown in the console.
- On Windows, txAdmin opens your browser with the PIN already filled in. On Linux, open
http://YOUR-IP:40120yourself (40120 is the default txAdmin port).
On an Astrol Nodes managed FiveM server, txAdmin comes preinstalled: the first time the server starts, the Console of the panel shows the link with the PIN to finish the txAdmin wizard.
How to log in to txAdmin and link your Cfx.re account
After the PIN, the wizard asks you to Link Account with your Cfx.re account (the same one you use on forum.cfx.re), confirm with Yes, Allow and create a password. That password is your backup password.
From then on, the txAdmin login page offers two methods:
- Login with Cfx.re, which only works if your txAdmin account has your FiveM identifier saved.
- Username and backup password, which works even when the Cfx.re login service is down.
To link or change your Cfx.re account, open Your Account in txAdmin, go to the Identifiers tab and fill in the FiveM identifier (format fivem:123456). You can also type your forum.cfx.re username and txAdmin converts it automatically. The FiveM and Discord identifiers are optional for the web dashboard, but at least one is required for the in-game menu (/tx) and the Discord bot.
How to recover access to txAdmin if you lost the password
If you can still log in with Cfx.re, do it and set a new password in Your Account > Password. If you cannot log in at all, reset the admin accounts:
- Stop the server completely. Close FXServer, not only the game server inside txAdmin. While txAdmin is running it monitors
admins.jsonand restores the file if it is modified or deleted. - Open the
txDatafolder and renameadmins.jsontoadmins.json.bak. By default, on WindowstxDatasits in the folder above the one that containsFXServer.exe; on Linux it sits in the same folder asrun.sh. Hosting providers can move it to another path. - Start FXServer again. With no admin file, txAdmin prints a new PIN in the console.
- Open the txAdmin URL, enter the PIN and create the master account again.
Keep in mind that, without admins.json, txAdmin starts with no admin accounts at all, not only without yours. The new master has to add the other admins again from the Admins page (Admin Manager); txAdmin generates a temporary password for each new admin, which they must change on their first login.
If the console shows Unable to load admins.json with a reason such as json parse error, empty file or must have exactly 1 master account, the file is damaged. Restore a backup copy or follow the same four steps so txAdmin creates a new one.
On an Astrol Nodes managed server, stop the server from the panel before touching the file and read the new PIN in the panel Console after starting it. You can also open a ticket and the support team will review it with you.
Common txAdmin login errors and what they mean
- Wrong PIN. txAdmin restarted and the PIN changed. Use the latest PIN in the console.
- Master Account Already Set. Someone already completed the setup. Go to the login page; if nobody has the credentials, follow the recovery steps above.
- Invalid Browser Session. txAdmin restarted while the page was open. Go back and try again.
- The Cfx.re account '...' is not an admin. That Cfx.re account is not linked to any txAdmin account. Log in with username and backup password and add the FiveM identifier in Your Account > Identifiers.
- Please Update/Synchronize your VPS clock. The Cfx.re login fails when the server clock is wrong. On Linux, check it with
timedatectland enable time synchronization withsudo timedatectl set-ntp true. - Connection to FiveM servers timed out. The Cfx.re login service did not respond. Log in with username and backup password.
How to fix "Unauthorized: token value" in the txAdmin menu
The in-game message txAdmin Menu authentication failed with reason: Unauthorized: token value means that the token sent by the server does not match the one txAdmin expects. txAdmin generates a new internal token every time it starts FXServer and hands it only to its own monitor resource, so the token breaks when that resource is restarted by hand or when the server was not started by that txAdmin instance.
- Restart the server from the txAdmin dashboard, not with
restart monitororensure monitor. Ifmonitoris restarted manually, the console showsPlease do not restart the monitor resource. - Check that your
server.cfgdoes notstart, stoporensurethemonitor,txAdminortxAdminClientresources. txAdmin's validator comments those lines out automatically when it starts the server. - Start FXServer without
+exec server.cfg. If you launch it with+exec, txAdmin does not run and the console showsAPI Host or Pipe Token ConVars not found. Do not start this resource if not using txAdmin. - When the server is back, type
/txAdmin-reauthin the chat to retry the menu authentication.
If the menu says Your identifiers do not match any admin registered on txAdmin, the problem is not the token: add your FiveM or Discord identifier to your account as explained above. For the rest of the server configuration, see FiveM server.cfg explained.
If you prefer a FiveM server with txAdmin already installed and managed from a panel, see the managed FiveM server.
